WAVE SHARE

Surfing is a Resource

Team CoreysWave believes surfing is a resource and is committed to sharing our passion with others. Wave Share is our community outreach program supporting youth development by sharing our passion with local youth.

Learning to surf without guidance is not easy.  Many people who become surfers have family or friends help teach them the correct techniques, others take surf lessons. Wave Share aims to share surfing with those who have not surfed, who are interested in surfing, and who do not necessarily have the opportunity to try surfing on their own. We believe surfing is a resource and having passion for an activity that's good for your body and mind and takes up hours of your day in physical fitness is a great thing. We know the value of surfing and live to share that eye-opening, first-time surfing experience with kids as lifelong surfers (and groms) ourselves.

FEBRUARY 2015: Follow our latest travels to Baja, Mexico where we surfed with the youth of La Misión! Team CoreysWave turned an epic, group surf trip into its first international Wave Share event. The small-world, good karma of the Montauk community led us to link up with Long Beach, NY-based Resurf Project to supply donated surfboard gear to the kids of La Misión. Over the course of a week with massive swell and perfect conditions, Team CoreysWave held two Wave Share surf lesson days, visited a local orphanage for a surfboard-painting art project, and met with the senior class of the local high school. Many thanks to Oran Bendelstein and Resurf Project, Evan Menen and La Misión Surf, the Menen and Speilman families, Gloria Snyder, and our sponsor Xcel Wetsuits for their efforts to support and sustain youth surfing programs in Northern Baja! There’s much more to do—stay tuned for news and videos from our trip!

JULY 2014: Our first Wave Share event supported Camp Interactive—a NYC-based nonprofit that teaches coding and computer science to diverse low-income high school students. With the help of The Surf Lodge in Montauk, Camp Interactive brought their students to CoreysWave for leadership development in surfing. One student, Samuel Perez, said “I got really good at surfing because of the cool instructors at CoreysWave, who kept giving me great advice and wouldn’t let me give up.” Check out photos here. Hope to see you again in 2015!
